Star of my state

I'm surprised that there are no comments posted here. Though I'm no photographer, I will happily tell you what I see and what I wish I didn't see.

This is a cool pic for a number of reasons. The flat lighting on the face actually enhances the mood for me, though modern convention would have you light for highlights and shadows a bit more.

The strong shadow under the chin is a bit heavy, but the good news is that the angle is so perfect that it kind of extends the chin scruff.

I like that his eyes are quite visible and that the colors here pop. I wish that he was either looking directly int the camera or more off center. This "very close to looking at you but not quite" is more disturbing than it needs to be.

It's cool how his uncombed hair is so well defined. I like that. If this were used for drawing, it would be one of the best elements.

What I really wish wasn't in the picture is the door—or at least the door handle. The handle adds nothing to the composition and because of it's color, pulls the eye away from the main attraction.

On the ratings, I gave average and low marks. Clearly selfies are so common today that Originality is going to be a challenge unless the person finds a way to be more creative and unusual. Thinking about lighting and the composition would bump up the Technique and Impact scores.

Overall, it's nice pic of someone who seems he wants to make a memorable mark on the viewer.
